Xarelto Bleeding Injury Lawsuits - Zeccola & Selinger, National AttorneysXarelto (rivaroxaban), a popular oral anticoagulant drug used to prevent blood clots, has been linked to serious and potentially fatal side effects, especially excessive and uncontrollable bleeding. In addition to gastrointestinal and cerebral hemorrhaging, Xarelto bleeding can include strokes, kidney injury, eye (conjunctival, ocular, retinal) bleeding, musculoskeletal bleeding, fatal intracranial bleeding, respiratory tract bleeding, and skin bleeding, according to its label. As a matter of fact, uncontrollable bleeding, including life-threatening and fatal bleeding, is the most commonly reported Xarelto side effect.

Other Xarelto side effects include Thrombotic Thrombocytopenic Purpura, or TTP. TTP is a rare blood condition that causes blood clots to form in small blood vessels throughout the body. The blood clots can cause serious problems if they block the blood vessels and limit blood flow to the brain, kidneys, or heart.

Because there is currently no reversal agent for Xarelto, it is particularly dangeous in the event of overdose or adverse effects.

 About Xarelto

Xarelto belongs to a class of prescription anticoagulants called Factor Xa inhibitors, and is prescribed in patients with atrial fibrillation, treatment of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism, and in patients undergoing knee or hip replacement surgery. In people with these conditions, the blood is more likely than usual to clot and these clots can travel to other parts of the body. Clots that travel to the brain can cause a stroke. Clots in the lungs are known as pulmonary embolism and clots in the legs are known as deep venous thrombosis (DVT). These are potentially fatal conditions necessitating treatment with anticoagulant drugs. Xarelto has been prescribed to treat and prevent these conditions but it has been linked with a large number of life-threatening injuries and deaths, according to the FDA Adverse Events Reporting System.
